John McAfee, famous virus protection guru is selling his mansion and yoga retreat in Woodland Park, Colorado. He moved here a dozen years ago and started a new company, that developed instant messaging products. He sold that company and he became a self-proclaimed recluse, yogi, – and wrote books on yoga. (see below)
Although I’ve never met the man, there are stories of his business style floating around Colorado. I wished I had worked for him. When he first moved here, reports flew that he allowed his employees to bring dogs to work, wear jeans, and set their own hours. Locals thought he was nuts.
Until he sold his share of the company for a reported $17 million.
He left computers behind to renovate his mansion and build a yoga center. He’s written three books on yoga and led yoga retreats before he decided that he wanted to live in the present and fly untra lights.
Ok. Sounds fun if you like that sort of thing.
His mansion is going on the auction block and it has no minimums. He’s put millions into the renovation alone, however the auction company expects the mansion to sell for around 20 million. Wow!
His guest cabins that are included in the auction have solar power. He has indoor fountains, natural marble and stones, and a mediation center,.
From businessweek.com:
The mansion, outside Woodland Park about 50 miles south of Denver, has five bedroom suites, nine fireplaces, hand-carved doors, flagstone floors and unobstructed views of 14,110-foot Pikes Peak, according to The National Auction Group, which is handling the sale.
The surrounding compound abuts the Pike National Forest and also has three guest homes, two guest apartments and nine guest cabins, for a total of 19 bedrooms on the estate.
The property also has trout lakes, observation decks, picnic areas, meeting facilities, a horse paddock of about 10 acres, a six-car garage and paved parking for 36 cars.
