Intuition seems to be on my mind lately.
I’ve been writing about my own experiences, - (or lack of them), and wondering why oh why it isn’t easy to stay connected.
So, in the spirit of ‘we teach what we need to learn,’ here are five steps to jump starting your (and my( intuition.
- Carry a small notebook and write down intuitive hits you may get throughout the day. Don’t worry about them making any sense. Once a week go back and read your notes. Notice if anything rises to the surface. No judgment allowed!
-
When you get an idea, sit quietly for a moment and ask yourself what are the reasons you need to carry out your idea. If you can think of three or more reasons to move forward it may not be an intuitive hit, but rather a ’should’ coming to the surface. Set aside the idea and go deeper into your motives, a stronger heart desire might surface. Write it down in your notebook.
- As the telephone rings, see if you can guess who is calling. (Oh no cheating, come on now, no caller ID allowed!) You’ll probably guess correctly a few times anyway, without effort, and in time you’ll find your percentage of correct guesses grows. Anyhow it is a fun game, and you learn to really tune in and trust your intuitive instincts.
- When you have a day when nothing seems to be going your way, stop everything and write in your notebook as if you were a long long relative or friend who hasn’t seen you in a long while. What would this friend or relative say to you about your day? What information would they have for you to get back into the flow of your life? Write quickly, whatever pops into your head. No editing allowed. Perhaps you’ll get some good advice.
Although I’ve been a bit mystified by my own intuitive heart this week, I’m still listening, and now I’ll be pulling out my notepad again and paying attention.
Oh, and another point, sometimes you’ll follow your intuition, sometimes you won’t. Not to worry, we all go through cycles. However, as you listen to yourself, and then follow your inner guidance, you’ll get stronger and stronger intuitive impulses. It’s a muscle that needs to be worked.

I’m a huge Sonia Choquette fan. She’s written a lot of books on the subject of intuition and physic awareness. This is one of my favorites:
The Psychic Pathway: A Workbook for Reawakening the Voice of Your Soul
Interview with Richard Bach:ADVENTURES OF THE SPIRIT Part II: INTUITION AND IMAGINATION with RICHARD BACH

Great list. I particularly like your second bullet. Sometimes ideas come too easily, which could indicate an intuitive connection, but not always. I agree that it is a good idea to explore your reasons for pursuing an idea prior to jumping into it with both feet. On the other hand, some of us have a tendency to over-analyze and talk ourselves out of good ideas. I’m hedging, I know. I suppose it depends. Nonetheless, wonderful post! And I’m glad your face popped up on my Recent Visitors widget! Take care… and Don’t wait for permission to succeed! I know you won’t. …Troy
Hi Troy, Thanks for the comment. I’ve been traveling a bit and just now catching up. I’m taking a summertime approach to intuition, kinda lazy, kinda fun.
